Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced the appointment of George Nazi, effective February 15, 2011 to its Quality Assurance and Customer Care leadership team. George, who will be based in Paris, will be deputy to Janet Davidson, executive vice president of Alcatel-Lucent and president of Quality Assurance and Customer Care.
George brings outstanding expertise and more than 20 years experience in the telecommunications industry in such critical areas as managing global network engineering and operations, as well as mergers, acquisitions and new business start ups.
“Alcatel-Lucent is stepping up the pace on its road to recovery and is bringing in a proven senior executive with deep and broad experience in our industry to enhance our ability to execute on our strategy and deliver on our commitments to our customers,” said Ben Verwaayen, CEO of Alcatel-Lucent. “George brings world-class expertise and a proven track record on managing and deploying complex networks. His perspective and skills will enhance our existing leadership team, and we all look forward to working with him.”
Before joining Alcatel-Lucent, George was with BT, responsible for all aspects of its 21st Century Network transformation program (21CN), as well as the business’ global networks and IT infrastructure platforms. In this position, George oversaw a team of more than 3,000 professionals and managed the interaction between that program and BT’s operational and customer-facing market units. Before leading BT’s 21CN program, George was responsible for the design and build of BT’s Global IP/MPLS network across 170 countries.
“I have seen the power of Alcatel-Lucent’s High Leverage Network first hand and am delighted that I will be part of the team deploying its capabilities,” George said. “I look forward to working closely with the talented leadership team Ben has assembled for this global player in our industry and to working with Alcatel-Lucent’s customers around the world as they transform their networks and business models.”
Before BT, George held executive positions with WorldCom and Level 3 where he led the integration of many of their acquisitions, along with senior engineering and planning roles. He also founded a CLEC in the USA in 1998 targeting small- to medium-size businesses to support them in optimizing their networks and reducing their costs.
George received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Tulsa University in 1992.
