Overall, based on the data, many small businesses are embracing flexible summer hours and vacation time. In fact, almost half of survey respondents (48 percent) plan on taking an upcoming vacation and 64 percent of respondents reported having flexible working hours in the summer months.
Additionally, working remotely is on the rise for small businesses, as 66 percent of respondents said they were allowed to conduct their job duties away from the office. The vast majority of those who work remotely do it from their homes (85 percent) and a lucky 32 percent report working from a summer vacation spot.
Despite being away from the office, small businesses are still dedicated to taking care of customers. In fact, more than 40 percent of the respondents who work remotely reported working the same hours as they do when they are in the office, while 21 percent said they actually worked longer hours remotely than while in the office.
"This survey reveals that many small businesses are embracing summer as a time to unwind and relax but still keeping their operations up and running," said Neil Austrian, Chairman and CEO for Office Depot. "Whether you are tethered to your desk or dialing in from the beach, Office Depot has everything that small businesses need to stay fully connected and functioning this summer."
